During the House recess, Representative Bart Stupak (Michigan) made a week-long tour of his district (the western Upper Penninsula)and talked with his constituents. According to The Wall Street Journal, Stupak, whose name has become synonymous with stopping federal funding of abortion in health care, estimates two-thirds of the voters in his district favor the Stupak Amendment. The Journal goes on to state that Stupak, in speaking about the abortion language that will be written in the final health care bill that melds the pro-abortion funding Senate bill and the anti-abortion funding House bill, says "he is confident that his stricter language (the Stupak Amendment) will remain in the final bill because 10 to 12 House Democrats won't vote for it unless his language -- or something very close -- is included." Please continue to pray that Representative Stupak and his supporters will remain firm on no government funding of abortion. The House will reconvene Tuesday at noon. Much pressure from the White House and congressional leadership will be put on Stupak and the 12 House Democrats who do not want government funding of abortion. May they not compromise.
May God have mercy on our nation.
